Bio:	Professor Carpenter specialties are 19th- and 20th-century American women's literature and American film.  She has collaborated on two books about women's ghost stories.  Under the pen names D. B. Borton and Della Borton, she has published nine mystery novels, the most recent of which is Slow Dissolve. She teaches freshman writing, film, American literature, women's literature, and the Gothic. Professor Carpenter is serving as the Benjamin T. Spencer Professor of Literature in 2003 - 2005.
