Biography Michelle Disler received her Ph.D. in Creative Nonfiction at Ohio University in 2007 where she taught special topics composition courses and workshops in creative nonfiction. Her writing, research and teaching interests include popular culture and the epistolary essay, and she counts MFK Fisher, Edna St. Vincent Millay, Gertrude Stein, and William Hazlitt among the writers who most influence her creative work. Selections from Disler's creative dissertation, "Archipelago," have appeared in journals including Lake Effect, Seneca Review, The Laurel Review, Gulf Coast, North Dakota Quarterly, Hotel Amerika, Witness, The Massachusetts Review, Fourth Genre, Painted Bride Quarterly, Southern Humanities Review, and Columbia, where she received the essay prize. Disler is also the receipient of the Virginia Woolf Prize in the Essay and is an AWP Intro Award in nonfiction and Pushcart Prize 2008 nominee, the latter for her multi-genre work on Ian Fleming's James Bond. Disler also made an online recording of selections from her "James Bond Alphabet" for "Wired for Books" by invitation at Ohio University, and is currently at work on separate manuscripts featuring James Bond and Beaver Island, Michigan.
