Bio:
Professor Poremski's teaching and research focus particularly on early American literature and culture from the contact period through the nineteenth century. She has published on women writers in early America, exploring legal and gender issues as well as the literary and material culture figuring in women's writing of this period.  She is especially interested in captivity narratives (usually stories of white settlers taken prisoner by natives) and how they continue to fascinate us.  She teaches composition, American literature (before 1900), women's literature, and Native American literature.
